A vacation is defined as a change of pace.
As secretary/treasurer of the 438th Troop Carrier Group of WWII, Don and I just returned from a trip to Oklahoma City.
While there, we visited the Cowboy National Museum and through viewing the arts, paintings, photography, and sculptures gained a whole new perspective of our country’s western history. Then an afternoon spent in the Oklahoma Memorial Museum was an experience we will never forget. Truthfully, I had forgotten much of the detail of the Oklahoma bombing, but viewing the displays and actual memoirs of that day, the reflection pool, the memory fence, and the chairs depicting each life lost was very moving. Then re-meeting with the Troop Carriers and the Glider Pilots of WWII, conversing with them and their families, hearing their stories of their participation in WWII and then saying good-bye again, knowing it might be the last time we see some of them, was also an emotional time. We concluded our trip on a happier note by dropping down to Roff to visit Don’s daughter, Connie. Now, it’s back to the “old” routine.

United Methodist Sunday has come and gone.  For you who were not in church on October 16th, we announced that our unit once more fulfilled the requirements of the 5 channels of Mission Giving.  We made a pledge of $1,000 to missions and received the World Thank Offering which has been submitted to the district treasurer.  We recognized Joel Kilgore and Stuart Church for services rendered not only when the women were working on projects but on behalf of the whole church.   We remembered four women, now deceased, who in past years were very active in church activities:  Alberta Yeomans, Laura Mae Couchman, Martha Dunn, and Sharron McCargar.  We recognized the years of service given by Estella Buys who has been “still waters running deep.” She diligently gave of her time and talents to our community serving as township treasurer and on the election boards and to our church serving as church secretary for fifteen years, before the time of computers and modern technology.  But above all, since it was first created, she has been the “Guardian Angel” of our Endowment Fund making sure all procedures enacted were according to specific rules and regulations.

Our November activities include hosting the Community All Church Christmas Bazaar on November 19th.   Margie First is chairing the “Food Service.”  Brunch consisting of homemade muffins, coffee cakes and beverages will be available during the morning hours.  Lunch offerings will be three kinds of homemade soups, in a bread bowl if you wish, jello salads, and a yummy apple dessert.  At least six churches are participating luring buyers with Christmas gift items, bake goods and many other creative creations. Plan to come to shop, eat, and enjoy the fellowship.  We will need help so if you can assist, there are sign-up sheets on the downstairs bulletin board.

The Festival of Tables is scheduled for December 1st.  Because of illness, we have had to change our program.   The Heaven Bound Gospel Quartette will be presenting our concert.   We are doing our best to make it an enticing evening.    Marge Irby is the chair of the hostesses.   If you would like to host a table and invite seven of your friends to join you, please call Marge----527-1314.   Tickets this year will be $7.00 per attendee and they will be available through Marge as of November 13th.

The Christmas Basket Project is well underway.
